Urinary Incontinence

Updated: Sep 27

Question: After the birth of my third child, I have been noticing more frequent urination, leaking, and less time between urination. I also noticed some sexual issues as well. Is there a treatment that helps with both of these issues?

Response: Yes, there absolutely is! According to an article just published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine entitled, "Predictors of Improvement in Sexual Function of Women with Urinary Incontinence After Treatment With Pelvic Floor Exercises: A Secondary Analysis," by Sacomori et al., they state that treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction through physical therapy not only helped with issues of urinary incontinence, but improved sexual desire, arousal/excitement, and orgasm.

According to the article, prior to treatment, 33.3% of women in the treatment group had sexual dysfunction, and after treatment, only 18.5% did.

For a list of pelvic floor physical therapists in the MD/DC/VA area, please contact me and I would be happy to set you up with a specialist.
